Smokin’ Joe’s Rib Ranch is coming to Tuttle in early spring. The original Smokin’ Joe’s is located in Davis, Oklahoma, and franchisee Reggie Long opened the second location in Rush Springs nine years ago.
Now, he’s looking to bring his top-notch barbecue to 151 East Main Street in Tuttle.
“Ever since I opened the one in Rush Springs,” Long said Friday, “which has been almost nine years, I always felt my second location would be Tuttle. I’ve just always been drawn to Tuttle a little bit. It’s a good-sized town with a nice community with good people, and it’s outside the city. I just thought it would be a great area.”
The location suffered a fire in June 2022, one that the property owners have worked to recover from.
“I talked to the owner of the property, Jeff Williams, about coming to Tuttle a couple of times, but he had some other folks in there. It wasn’t the right look, the right timing, and then there was a fire there. They completely gutted the location, and they’ve been great to work with. I think it’ll be a good deal. I’m looking forward to it. We’ve had a lot of people who have come to Rush Springs from Tuttle just to eat, who have for years.”
Long got into the barbecue business shortly after trying Smokin’ Joe’s for the first time.
“I ate Smokin’ Joe’s one day,” Long said. “I was going to a Regional basketball game in 2012, and stopped in this place my buddy recommended in Davis. As soon as I ate it, I knew it’s what I wanted to do. I always wanted to do barbecue, but I didn’t really know much about it. I went back the next day and asked the owner if he would let me franchise it. I got the location in Rush Springs opened May of 2014. They taught me how to do it. It comes with purchasing power with the vendors. It’s a pretty good deal. We do everything the same. We use the same smokers. They taught me how to smoke the way they do. We use the same rub recipes. All the homemade recipes are the same, including Strawberries on a Cloud. I also have my Mama’s Heavenly Nanna’s Pudding.”
Smokin’ Joe’s will also feature a bar with beers and mixed drinks, part of a new, fun dining experience for Tuttle.
“We’re trying to make it a cool atmosphere,” Long said. “It will be different from the one in Rush Springs. In Rush Springs, it’s rustic and we have a bunch of old signs. This one here, we weren’t really able to go very rustic because I’m leasing the building. I don’t own the building. They’ve let me have a lot of input, and I’ve helped design the layout, and some of the colors, but in the end, it’s their building. It’s newer material.
It will look cool though. They let me lay it out though, as far as the way I wanted it to function. We also put a patio on there. We’re going to have from four to six TVs in there, and provide a good atmosphere.”
